This is my second month getting Birchbox and I am pretty happy with what came in my box this month. There were no full sized items but there were several products from brands that are new to me, and I always enjoy testing out things from a new company.
That’s what I love most about boxes like this (and Ipsy). I can be pretty narrow minded when it comes to skincare and cosmetics. Generally only things from the Drugstore or Sephora find their way into my makeup bag, but beauty boxes like this give me a chance to test out some really great, high end products that I otherwise never would have known about! And for only $10 a month the value is pretty awesome.
Visanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator (Full size $34 US)
This face scrub is supposed to dissolve and buff away dead skin to leave your skin feeling bright and vibrant. The exfoliators are very small, almost like tiny grains of sand. There is a strong perfume scent though so I am hesitant to try it on my face as my skin is so reactive and sensitive. This would probably be great for those with oiler skin types!
COOLA Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face (Full size $36 US)
Finally an unscented sunscreen! This has no smell at all, it gives the skin a matte finish and offers SPF 30 protection. $36 is a lot for sunscreen but if I was going on vacation I would invest in this. It doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy and it’s slightly tinted to help even out the skin. I think this must be a favourite for Birchbox because I received two Coola products in my last box as well.
Folle de Joie eau de parfum (Full Size $98)
Let me start by saying that I would never spend $98 on a fragrance. I am always sceptical of new perfumes since I’ve been wearing the same one for so many years. I was a bit disappointed about getting a fragrance, but I’m sure some people really like trying out new perfumes. I did give this a spritz and I didn’t mind the scent (mandarin, rose and sandalwood) but it’s not something I’d ever purchase, especially not for $100!
Number 4 Hydrating Shampoo (Full size $34)
I haven’t tried this out yet, but it smells amazing. It’s paraben and sulphate free which is always a bonus for me. It’s formulated for dry and brittle hair so obviously I will be trying it as I am all about that hydrating life. My poor hair, it never had a chance. So many years of highlights = super damaged tresses. It’s worth it though, I MUST BE BLONDE! FOREVER!
This box also came with a small conditioner sample as well. Hair care is something I don’t mind spending a bit more money on as long as it really works. So we will see how this sample size goes! I may purchase the full size if it works really well. It’s actually wait listed on the Birchbox website. A good sign perhaps…?
Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Body Lotion (Full Size $16)
Me no likey. This lotion has a really strong scent that I don’t care for, and though it does leave the skin nice and soft I can’t get past the smell. It’s really strong and lingers. Lucky (?) for me I have been cleaning up puppy pee and poo so much this week that I’ve been washing my hands every 15 minutes so the smell faded a lot fast than normal. Thanks Buffy!
Overall I am happy with this box. This box is exactly $10/month (no shipping costs) which is a great value for all of the high end samples I got. If you live in the US and would like to start getting Birchboxes each month you can sign up HERE using my referral link : )
