Birchbox July 2014 Review

birchbox july 2014 review

Time for my last beauty box of the month – Birchbox! This baby is only available in the US, so one day when I move back to Canada I am going to be missing this one! Similar to Ipsy it is $10 a month and you get a mix of skincare and cosmetics. Most of these items can be found on several different sites so you can shop around to find the best price, but the nice thing about this box is that everything in the box is available to purchase from Birchbox.com. Anything with a * means that it is available exclusively through Birchbox.com!

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream $20 *Exclusive to Birchbox

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream review

“A moisturizing base of omega-rich squalene, organic shea butter, jojoba oil, and coconut oil protects against the redness and irritation associated with shaving, while organic green tea extracts infuse skin with antioxidants.” -Whish

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream review

This shaving cream contains coconut oil which instantly makes me happy because I know that coconut oil has so many benefits for the skin. The downside is that I use the Schick Intuition razor which has shaving cream built in. I applied some of this to my hand just to see what the texture was like and it’s super creamy and thin so it would probably work really well!

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil $18

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil review

“Unlike some glosses that simply provide a nice shine, this lip lube channels softening shea butter, which moisturizes and fills in any unsightly lines, and is infused with refreshing mint. Available in an array of wearable, softly pigmented shades.” – LAQA

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil review

This reminds me of the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Balms, but this one has an interesting texture. It’s not quite as glossy as the Lacquers, but it’s not quite matte either. I am really liking the hint of cooling mint that this has. I know I’ll be enjoying this little sample for sure : )

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel $48

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel

“Suitable for all skin types, this pH-neutral protein peel gently exfoliates delicate skin without the use of harsh acids or abrasives. The unique gel binds to dead skin cells on the face, neck, and décolleté, forming solids that can be easily washed away with water. In just three minutes you’ll reveal the luminous, younger-looking skin below. Great for reducing the appearance of acne scars, dark spots, rosacea, and blotchiness (and who doesn’t suffer from at least one of those?).” – Real Chemistry

I don’t know how I feel about this one. It SEEMS like it’s working I just don’t know for sure. The instant I start rubbing it into my skin it begins to bead and little balls of what look like dried skin start falling into the sink. I am assuming this is the product removing the dead skin from my face, but how does it work that fast? It almost starts to bead as I am applying it, before I even massage it in.

It says to rub into skin for three minutes but by then all the product had come off and I was just rubbing my bare skin…Am I missing a step? I should say that my skin did feel softer afterward! $48 is a little high for something that’s not a life changing product.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream $38

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream

“This lightweight cream absorbs quickly into skin and has a lovely lavender-herb scent. Virgin coconut, rose-hip, and carrot oil unite to soften dry skin, while a soothing blend of chamomile, cucumber, and witch hazel instantly brightens dark circles. Throw in antioxidant-rich spruce knot and skin-plumping hyaluronic acid, and this cream packs an antiaging punch.”  -Balance Me

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream

I’ve been using this for about 4 days and while I haven’t noticed any dramatic results it does feel lovely on the skin. It’s fast absorbing and you only need a tiny amount. I’ll have to try it for a few weeks to see if it really reduces wrinkles and dark circles.

100% Pure Gingerade Shower Gel $15 *Exclusive to Birchbox

body wash

“With its blend of therapeutic herbs, green tea, and seaweed, this shower gel hydrates while gently cleansing your body. Just as notable as what’s included in the ingredient list is what’s missing: This all-natural formula is free of sulfates, detergents, artificial fragrances, dyes, chemical preservatives, and other harmful compounds.” -100% Pure

I haven’t had a chance to try this out out yet. The box came with two samples which is nice so I can get a few showers out of these samples. Of course I like that it’s natural and vegetarian, and I’m sure it works well I just haven’t had a chance to use it!

The eye cream and lip balm were the standout products in this months box. I’m a bit bummed I didn’t get any full sized items but I am happy with the samples I got!
