Summer is almost here and that means it’s time to bust out the sunscreen and protect dat skin yo! I for one hate wearing sunscreen which is a very unpopular opinion I am aware. It’s just that it’s been super challenging to find SPF products that don’t break me out or smell unpleasant. Plus I’m lazy. It’s mostly that I’m lazy.
Here’s the thing. I’m over 30 now and I need to get serious about protecting my skin. I’ve managed to find three products that contain sunscreen and still keep my skin looking and feeling good.
Foundation: Revlon Colorstay Makeup SPF 20 for Normal/Dry Skin ($9.49 USD)
I was on the hunt for a good drugstore foundation and I got an overwhelming response from people suggesting this one. I’m glad I finally tried it because it’s a great demi-matte formula that’s also long lasting! I am not a big fan of applying sunscreen under my foundation so I like that it has SPF 20 built right in. Less steps = better!
Skincare: Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 ($12 USD)
Not a big makeup fan? You can go au naturale and still get the skin protection you need. This is a daily moisturizer with SPF 47 which is the highest SPF level out of these 3 products.
The downside of this moisturizer is that it leaves a slight white cast on your skin like most sunscreens. The good news is it contains argan oil and green tea which help to nourish your skin all day long. It’s also Paraben, Sulfate and Phthalate free!
Light Coverage: BeautyCounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
Beauty Counter is a fairly new brand and I recently discovered it through a friend who works there. They are more than a skincare and makeup brand, they are actually trying to change the industry. They’ve banned more than 1,500 harmful ingredients from their products and are working to change laws in the US to be more strict on banning toxic ingredients! BeautyCounter was also recently featured on Goop.com (Gweneth Paltrow’s blog!) and it totally lives up to the hype. Right now it’s sold exclusively through consultants but you will also be able to find limited items in Target this fall!
Dew Skin is the perfect balance between moisturizer and foundation. You get the skin boosting benefits of vitamin C and hyaluronic acid but you also get light makeup coverage. It’s a little too sheer for me if I have any blemishes or my rosacea is acting up, but if you have relatively clear skin this will give you nice, subtle coverage.
Now that the warmer weather is here what is your go-to SPF? Let me know in the comments!

My daytime moisturizer has SPF in it, but if I’m going out in the sun I’ll also use a tinted facial sunblock from La Roche-Posay. It gives a matte finish so I’m not left looking greasy, I love it!

I love La Roche-Posay. I used their rosacea skincare line for years!

I really like drunk elephant as well. I used the Josie one until I found this one.
Megan Joy says
I’ve never heard of Drunk Elephant or Josie! I’ll have to check them out, thanks 🙂

I’m a big fan of drunk elephant! The JuJu bar is a godsend!
Megan Joy says
That’s awesome, thanks for the suggestions!

I find that if I don’t have SPF in my daytime moisturizer I will always forget to put it on my face. I love the Reversa moisturizers for that reason!
Megan Joy says
I’m the same way! I always forget to put it on so foundations that have SPF built in are more up my alley.

I have that dew skin too – I love it!
Megan Joy says
It was a bit too sheer for me but I love the dewy finish! If my skin clears up I’ll be wearing it on the daily 🙂

Yes to the Josie Maran one! The texture is not bad, but I got the tinted one because I didn’t want to look too white. It’s nice because it just melts right in and I don’t feel like my skin is just THICK with sunscreen.
Megan Joy says
Oh cool, I didn’t know they had a tinted one. I need to try that!
