DIY Coconut Pepper + Mint Body Scrub

diy, coconut, mint, body-scrub

This DIY body scrub is simple, natural and very easy to make. It only requires four ingredients, most of which you probably already have at home! This has been a favourite of mine for a few years now. This makes for a great gift – I’ve made it for many of my friends at Christmas. My skin is so soft afterwards that I didn’t even need to use moisturizer. One word of caution – be very careful when using it in the shower. It will make the bottom of the tub slick and easy to slip on (I may be speaking from experience lol).

As someone who suffers from extremely sensitive and dry skin, this scrub has been wonderful. Because it contains pure ingredients there is nothing to irritate your skin!

I was inspired by a post on Made in Pretoria and decided I had to try this out. The main difference is that I used coconut oil rather than olive oil. If you read my previous post on all the amazing benefits of coconut oil you will see why. The peppermint actually blends very well with the coconut, it created an unexpected but very yummy scent that I really enjoy!

Follow the steps below to make your own homemade body scrub!

Ingredients: (*Measurements will change depending on the size of the jar. Use 2 parts epsom salts to 1 part coconut oil)

  • 1 cup epsom salt
  • 1 tbsp Course ground pepper (I used whole pepper corns and crushed them with a spoon)
  • 1/2 cup cold-pressed organic coconut oil (melted)
  • 3 drops peppermint essential oil

Step 1: Pour epsom salt and pepper into a clean, dry jar.

Step 2: Microwave coconut oil until it become liquid, and pour into the jar. Add 3 drops of peppermint essential oil.

Step 3: Stir thoroughly, and leave in a cool place until coconut oil becomes solid again.

And that’s it!

This body scrub is so simple and smells and feels amazing. I use it once or twice a week to help exfoliate my skin, especially before shaving. Add lavender oil for a more floral scent, or orange oil for a citrusy aroma. The coconut oil has a very subtle smell so you can easily play around with the essential oils you choose to add! You could even add a few drops of food colouring to your creation for seasonal gifts (pink for Valentine’s day anyone?).

Let me know if you decide to try this out!

Megan you’re a genius. When Mike and I went down the the bahamas there was this scrub they sold in their spa. Needless to say it was amazing and I’ve been trying to find a scrub like it since. This sounds easy, simple and I cant wait to try it.
